Abu Dhabi-based developer TDIC said its Saadiyat Island project is “booming”, with 98 percent of its St Regis apartments currently leased and 80 percent of it Saadiyat villas sold in time for the November 2012 handover.
Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), the emirate’s tourism development company, is planning to build a mall on Saadiyat Island, its offshore cultural development which will include attractions such as Louvre, Guggenheim and Zayed National museums.
Earlier this week, TDIC announced it has seen high demand for its residential projects across Saadiyat, with 98 percent of The Residences at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort currently leased out and 80 percent of units of the Saadiyat Beach Villas currently sold.
The $27bn master development will be a flagship development for the UAE capital. However, earlier this year TDIC confirmed Abu Dhabi was pushing back the opening of local branches of the Louvre and Guggenheim art museums, after a fresh review of the projects.
The Louvre Abu Dhabi, a spin-off of the famous Paris museum, will now open in 2015 while Abu Dhabi’s branch of New York’s Guggenheim, will open in 2017, TDIC said.
The Zayed National Museum will open in 2016, the statement said. All the three museums were originally scheduled to open between 2013 and 2014.
Abu Dhabi, capital of the UAE, has plans to invest billions of dollars in tourism, infrastructure and industry to diversify its economy away from oil.
