Cancer en función de la nacionalidad

Hay 1.7 mas casos de cancer (por 100K habitantes y estandarizado por la edad) en los paises desarrollados que en los no desarrollados, se puede apreciar que ciertos tipos de canceres son mas comunes en los paises desarrollados y otros en los paises subdesarrollados y esto va en funcion de los habitos, por ejemplo cancer de estomago en su mayoria producido por la Helicobacter P. (intolerancias-alimenticias-f111/helicobacter-pilory-t1223.html#p6651) es mas frecuente en paises poco desarrollados:

Both sexes
The rate for all cancers (for cancers that occur in men and women) was 1.7 times higher in more developed compared with less developed countries.
For melanoma of the skin, kidney cancer and multiple myeloma rates were more than three times higher in more developed compared with less developed countries.
For nasopharyngeal cancer the rate was nearly four times higher in less developed than more developed countries.

Men
The rate for all cancers was 1.9 times higher in more developed compared with less developed countries.
Cancer rates were at least three times higher in more developed than less developed countries for cancers of the prostate, colorectum, bladder, kidney, pancreas and testis, multiple myeloma and melanoma of the skin.
Higher cancer rates were observed in less developed compared with more developed countries for cancers of the stomach, liver, oesophagus and nasopharynx.

Women
The rate for all cancers was 1.6 times higher in more developed compared with less developed countries.
Cancer rates were at least three times higher in more developed than less developed countries for kidney cancer, multiple myeloma, melanoma of the skin and Hodgkins lymphoma.
Higher cancer rates were observed in less developed compared with more developed countries for cancers of the cervix, stomach, liver, oesophagus, lip and oral cavity, gallbladder and nasopharynx.

A person’s risk of being diagnosed with cancer is dependent on age. Overall, it is estimated that more than one in three people will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime. This was calculated using the AMP method using 2010 data for the UK.1-8 This compares to an estimated risk of 1 in 35 for men and 1 in 20 for women being diagnosed with cancer up to the age of 50 years. For further information on risk see the section on understanding risk.

For instance, for men there is a less than 2% risk of being diagnosed with lung cancer by age 65 but this increases to almost 8% over a lifetime.

In 1975 the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with cancer was around 25% or one in four people. Since then, there has been a steady rise in cancer incidence rates from the 1970s until the late 1990s when rates began to stabilise.

The lifetime risk for women is projected to be 44% in 2030 compared with more than 50% for men.

Men with cancer are twice as likely as women to have a modifiable risk factor for their disease

In Canada, as of 2007, cancer is the number one cause of death, contributing to 29.6% of all deaths in the country. The second highest cause of death is cardiovascular diseases resulting in 21.5% of deaths. As of 2011, prostate cancer was the most common form of cancer among males (about 28% of all new cases) and breast cancer the most common in females (also about 28% of all new cases).

The leading cause of death in both males and females is lung cancer, which contributes to 26.8% of all cancer deaths.

In the United States, cancer is responsible for 25% of all deaths with 30% of these from lung cancer. The most commonly occurring cancer in men is prostate cancer (about 25% of new cases) and in women is breast cancer (also about 25%)

Cancer survivors have an increased risk of developing a second primary cancer, and the odds are about two in nine.

– Tobacco smoking, which is strongly associated with lung cancer, mouth, and throat cancer;

– drinking alcohol, which is associated with a small increase in oral, esophageal, breast, liver and other cancers;
– a diet low in fruit and vegetables,

– physical inactivity, which is associated with increased risk of colon, breast, and possibly other cancers
– obesity, which is associated with colon, breast, endometrial, and possibly other cancers
– sexual transmission of human papillomavirus, which causes cervical cancer and some forms of anal cancer.

The American Cancer Society predicts that approximately 1,690,000 new cancer cases will be diagnosed and 577,000 Americans will ultimately die of cancer in 2012.
