The massive rise in the price of Twitter shares as it began trading publicly on Thursday briefly made the company more valuable than heavyweights such as Time Warner and Yahoo.
Shares in Twitter opened at $45.10 on volume of 11m as trading in the social media company began on the New York Stock Exchange, quickly rising to a peak of $50.09, giving it a market capitalisation of $34.7bn.At midday in New York, shares in Twitter had eased back to about $45.56, some 75 per cent above its listing price of $26.
“While people don’t understand exactly how Twitter is going to make money, they understand the product. They use it all the time and it is exciting. They want to participate in this story,” added Mr Kinahan.

LinkedIn, the only major social network that is not blocked in China, has over 20 million users in the country.
Asia-Pacific overall has more active social media users than any region, and Southeast Asian markets are off the charts when it comes to mobile social media usage. Eighty-two percent of Thai smartphone owners access social media daily on their phones.
