India and China have withdrawn troops from a disputed Himalayan region on the border with China, foreign ministries from the two countries announced Monday, defusing a tense standoff that had threatened to provoke armed conflict between the nuclear-armed Asian rivals.

For the past two months, Indian and Chinese troops had faced off on a plateau in the Doklam area in the Himalayas, after Indian troops moved in to prevent the Chinese military from building a road into territory claimed by India’s close ally, Bhutan.

China had repeatedly and furiously denounced the Indian move as a direct infringement of its sovereignty, demanded an immediate and unconditional withdrawal, and warned that conflict was a real possibility if that didn’t happen.

China saca pecho:

China's foreign minister says he hopes India can learn lessons from a recently resolved border standoff and avoid such occurrences in the future.

Wang Yi's remarks Wednesday came two days after the countries agreed to pull back their troops from a disputed Himalayan plateau where China, India and Bhutan meet.

Neither side has offered details of how the standoff was resolved, and China says it could resume road construction that sparked the confrontation.

Both India and China said their troops would continue to patrol in the Doklam area as they did before the face-off.

The resolution appeared to have been timed ahead of a summit in China next week that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to attend.

La comunidad internacional deberia de poner sanciones a China, no es la primera vez que hace esto.
